Walk                       In Person

Join Nature Vancouver and Birds Canada for a spring bird walk at Queen Elizabeth Park during the peak of migration. Early May is one of the best times of year to experience songbird movement through Vancouver, and we’ll be looking for warblers, vireos, tanagers, flycatchers, and other migrants passing through the park’s trees and gardens. Species we may encounter include Wilson’s Warbler, Warbling Vireo, Western Tanager, and Black-headed Grosbeak, along with a variety of other spring migrants.

This walk is part of Vancouver Bird Celebration Week and coincides with Global Big Day, a worldwide volunteer monitoring event celebrating birds. Trip leaders will record sightings on eBird to help promote participation in volunteer bird monitoring.  All experience levels are welcome, including those who are new to birding.

Trip Leaders:

Yousif Attia works for Birds Canada, a national not-for-profit organization and BirdLife International partner dedicated to the conservation of wild birds. He supports national volunteer monitoring programs, including the Christmas Bird Count and eBird in Canada, and contributes to content development and public outreach. Yousif is an experienced birding tour leader and avid regional birder who enjoys sharing his knowledge of bird migration and identification.

Neill Vanhisberg is an active Nature Vancouver birding trip leader and recipient of a community award recognizing his contributions to birding and conservation. He is a dedicated field birder and participates in the East Cascades Raptor Monitoring Project, a long-running effort that monitors migrating diurnal raptors across western North America.

Joanna Chin is a PhD candidate researching women’s learning experiences with birds and the relational ethics that emerge through bird encounters. She integrates birding and nature journaling as a way of deepening relationships with birds and place.
