IN-PERSON PROGRAM

Every year, birders across North America (and open to anyone in the world) take part in an all-day, stationary bird watch: The Big Sit. The goal? To record the variety of birds in an area through patient and peaceful observation. Join us and local birders for our very own Big Sit stationed in the accessible and beloved birding destination of Lost Lagoon. With the help of birding experts and staff, have a seat with a beautiful view of the water, forest, skies and mountains and use binoculars and scopes to spot dozens of bird species! We’ll be set up from 8am to 2pm, and you are welcome to drop in for as long as you like. At the end of the day, we’ll take your observations and submit them to eBird to contribute to a valuable set of bird data! No matter how much birding knowledge or experience you have, you can be proud to take part in a project that broadens our knowledge of bird range and diversity. See you in the Park!

We are proud to include this program in our Vancouver Bird Celebration events. Check out our other free events from May 14 to May 29 and get excited about birds with us!

We gratefully acknowledge that the land on which we gather and help steward is the unceded and traditional territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation. Since time immemorial, Coast Salish peoples have lived reciprocally with the land, harvesting and cultivating foods and medicines and practicing ceremony. The abundance of these lands and waters, which enables us to live, work, and play here today, is a result of the past and on-going stewardship and advocacy of the Coast Salish peoples.
