Join this small group for a fun relaxed morning of birding in the Musqueam Park area of Southlands. This trip will be oriented to people who have little or no birding experience and would like to learn more about the wonderful local birds, birding apps, the birding locations, and other resources. We will explore the local trails and woodlots looking for birds and learning about their habitats, how to use binoculars, birding books and apps, and local birding organizations. Bring binoculars and your cell phone if you have them. There will be a few pairs of loaner binoculars for the morning. We will be using the “Merlin” birding app, which can be downloaded free from Google Play or iTunes. Another key app is eBird (also free). There will be a brief session on how to use these apps.

Dress for the weather – the trails can be muddy and it can be cold & windy along the river. We will be walking on level dirt and gravel trails and cement pathways, but the ground can be a bit rough in a few areas with protruding stumps or rocks. Children are welcome but those under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult. This trip goes rain or shine (unless it’s a total downpour). We will meet at the small parking lot at the NE Corner of Musqueam Park, which is the corner of SW Marine Drive and Crown Street. There is a public washroom nearby. For those using the bus, take the #49 bus west of 41st Ave to Crown, then walk south one long block on Crown to SW Marine Drive.

Pre-registration required. The trip is limited to 12 participants. To join or if you have questions, please email Donna McKenzie at admckenzie@shaw.ca.
